Update: Winter Storm Watch Issued Vermont, Northern New York

Early projections call for a general 6 to 12 inches of snow
in a new nor'easter due Sunday afternoon into Monday.
Forecasts could change.
I mentioned this morning that it was looking like we might get a decent sized snowstorm Sunday and Monday in Vermont, but the forecast was iffy.

Confidence in that forecast is growing. Enough to prompt the National Weather Service in South Burlington, Vermont to issue a winter storm watch Sunday through Monday.

Snow is likely to overspread New York Sunday morning and work into Vermont later in the morning and during the day.

At this point, it looks like the snow will pick up in intensity Sunday evening before beginning to taper off Monday.

The thinking is a storm coming at us from the southwest will transfer its energy to the coast and become another nor'easter. If that happens, expect the snow to blow around quite a bit in gusty winds, too.

Early projects indicate six to eight inches of snow out of this in the Champlain Valley, and between six and 12 inches of snow elsewhere in Vermont. Unlike the last storm, at this point it looks like all of Vermont and eastern New York are going to get this, not just far southern Vermont.

Do note this is still a tricky forecast, so expect some changes in the expected timing, total snowfall and other factors before we get to the event.

But do plan ahead for potentially tricky travel both Sunday and Monday, along with maybe some school and other cancellations.

Before we even get to the storm Sunday and Monday, it still looks like we here in Vermont are going to get one to three inches of snow late tonight and Saturday morning.
