New Year: No Snow On Ground In Vermont, But Snow In Tuscon. Go Figure

Beauty in the desert: Snow near Tucson, Arizona yesterday
In many valleys of Vermont, there was absolutely no snow on the ground in the opening hours of 2019.

Which makes things seem especially topsy-turvy when you consider that the deserts around Tucson, Arizona were a winter wonderland on New Year's Day.

Officially, Tucson measured 0.4 inches at International Airport tbrough yesterday.

It doesn't snow often in Tucson, but they do get some from time to time. This was the first measureable snow in Tucson in six years. The biggest snowstorm in that city's history was 6.8 inches on December 8, 1971.

While temperatures in Arizona are obviously well below normal, this isn't record cold for them. The record low tomorrow as skies clear in Tucson is 19. The forecast low is 24 degrees.

The forecast low in Phoenix tonight is 30 degrees, the record low is 23 degrees.

More snow is dusting areas in Arizona today but it won't accumulate much. Warmer weather is forecast for the state later in the week.

Meanwhile, a dusting to three inches of snow will whiten the brown Vermont landscape tonight and tomorrow morning. So all will be right in the world. Sort of.

Here's a video of the beautiful desert snow from Rick Hutton, who used both a vehicle and drone to explore the snowy landscape:
