Other Storms: One Named Clodagh Just Blasted Britain

Great Britain has taken to naming its winter storms, just like the Weather Channel in the United States.
A huge tree crushed this car in Great Britain during
powerful Winter Storm Clodagh over the weekend.

Those named British storms have given that region of the globe a rousing start to winter let me tell you!

Abigail and Barney have already caused damage in the past month, and now they're just recovering from a new one.

The latest one was Clodagh, which blasted much of especially the northern British isles with huge winds, and in some places, snow.

Part of Wales had a month's worth of rain in just a day or two. Strong winds flung roofs from several buildings. For instance, roofs of three adjoining houses in Wales flew away in the wind.

Thousands of people had their electricity cut, and countless trees toppled during Clodagh.

A historic windmill in Lincolnshire, built in 1875, was severely damaged in Clodagh's gales.

In Manchester, the 47 story Beetham Tower, built in 2006 made an annoying, loud sci-fi sound as strong winds blew over a decoratve glass feature on its roof. The building makes this sound every time the winds howl particularly strongly.

The British Met Office says conditions will remain unsettled across much of the region for the next several days, but it won't be nearly as stormy as it was during Clodagh.
