Winter Storms Erase Part Of Iconic N.Carolina Pier

The far end of the Rodanthe Pier in North Carolina
crumbles into the churning Atlantic Ocean this week.
It's no secret that some immense fall and winter storms have been battering the U.S. East Coast in recent years.

Exhibit A: The expected blizzard/nor'easter that is expected to pound New England and the Maritime Provinces of Canada Sunday.

These repeated storms finally took a toll on one place in North Carolina this week: The Rodanthe Pier on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

I'd always see footage of waves blasting underneath the pier on the evening news when a hurricane or severe storm threatens the East Coast. Finally, there have been at least one or two too many storms for the pier. At least the far end of it.

A bad nor'easter caused a lot of damage in December, and another nor'easter - the only one to miss New England this month - finally did the end of the pier in around Wednesday and Thursday.

Pretty dramatic video, and interesting story told by television station WAVY in Portsmouth, VA.:

Here it is:
