So Much Snow That Big Good Boy Had To Dig Path For Small Good Boy

The area around Durango, California just received about 80 inches of snow in about a week, with maybe three feet in just three day.

That's a TON of snow by any measure. People had trouble getting around, and so did their best friends.

Case in point is the video below, in which a small good boy has trouble making it back home through the deep drifts. Luckily a bigger good boy was available to clear a path for the stuck little guy.

Rescue The Animals! Videos Of Animals Being Rescued From Wildfires, Floods

Two recent videos made me happy that people do remember animals in disasters.  As wildfires and flash floods struck, people sprung into action.

Not only are people driven to save each other from harm, thank goodness there are people who remember our dog and cat and other animal companions.


The first video is bodycam footage of police rushing into an animal shelter as the Carr Fire near Redding, California bears down on the building.

By the way, the Carr fire was likely started by a camper on a highway that got a flat tire. The rim made contact with the asphalt, sparks flew into the brush and the fire started. The owners of the camper, an older couple are distraught that they accidentally started the fire and feel responsible.

Victims of the fire, many of whom lost their homes, are sending letters to the elderly couple assuring them it was not their fault and they should not feel bad.

Back to the animal rescues, Big rush to get them out, but it worked. All were saved. Watch:



Next, we go to New Jersey, where a flash flood threatened the lives of 80 dogs trapped in a doggie day care center as water began to pour in. Personnel at the place tried to get the dogs to safety, but there were too many of them.

The dogs began barking and howling so loudly in panic that people inside a nearby gun range (!!) heard them. The guys dropped their guns, went to the dog day care center and got all the dogs to safety.

Seventeen of the dogs spent the night safely at the higher and drier gun range overnight until their human companions could retrieve them. (No gunfire to scare the dogs, the place was closed while the dogs sheltered there.)

The dogs weren't the only good boys in this scenario, that's for sure. Watch the news clip:

Wild Weather Videos From A Wild Weather Week

More videos are coming in -- in dribs and drabs - of some wild moments in the past week's wild weather in North America.

That's the nice thing about technology these days: Everybody's got a camera.

You've already seen some videos that got our attention in prior posts, but here's a few more.

The first involves a family in Danville, Virginia on Sunday who were audably worried as they drove in stormy weather amid tornado warnings.

Then all hell breaks loose. Spoiler: They're OK, and theywent on to check on others in the damaged area (it wasn't that big a tornado, it looks like.) And they check out some of the damage.

Totally worth the watch:



Up in Toronto, Canada, they had an ice storm this week with the big storm. Watch this video of a dog in danger. (Another spoiler: She's fine) The dog was in the back yard, and was startled by what must have been a loud cracking noise.

Frightened, the dog ran to the back deck. Good thing, as you'll find out:



In that same Canadian ice storm this week, a hungry raccoon braved ice and strong winds to get at a bird feeder. It didn't go well. Love the kids indoors laughing at the little critter:



The storm caused a blizzard in the Midwest, and of course high winds were widespread. Check out this beautiful video of huge waves crashing ashore on Lake Superior. Notice how water was freezing on the shore. Remember this is a lake, albeit a big one, not the ocean:



The storm caused very heavy rain in New York City and surrounding areas on Monday. Nearly three inches of rain deluged Manhattan. It turned out not to be a good day to take the subway, as flash flooding caused scenes like this:

Cats And Dogs Teaching Us How To Manage Snow

I know this isn't exactly Eyewitness Breaking News, but I thought it would be fun to show you what to do if you can't go out and play in the snow.

Did The Ice Or The Dog Just Take Down That Tree

Countless trees across the Southeastern United States have been collapsing under the weight of that epic ice storm.

In this video, was it the ice who collapsed the ornamental tree, or was it the thunderous barking from the dogs? Or both.
