Don't Let Bit Of Snow Worry You, Vermont, Spring Still Coming

UPDATE: The snow has lingered a little longer in Vermont than we hoped, and several places have recieved an inch or so of snow, especially in northern Vermont

The rest of the day won't be exactly nice, with off and on wet, light snow, mixing with and changing to light, cold rain showers,.

Winds will stay gusty out of the south in the Champlain Valley. Kind of a hibernation type March day.

PREVIOUS DISCUSSION:

After a rather pleasant March Sunday which saw a fair amount of sun, light winds, and temperatures up near 40, we Vermonters woke up to a somewhat less pleasant Monday.

In the Champlain Valley it's windy, and a burst of snow was moved across northern Vermont.

The snow was actually briefly heavy in a few spots. (We had a pretty good but brief snow squall at my house in St. Albans, Vermont around 6:30 a.m. Only a dusting accumulated.)

Don't worry, the forecast for springlike weather - at least warmer than average weather for March - is still on track.

Anyone reading this while it's snowing can rest assure that by afternoon at the latest, any precipitation that comes down will be rain. And it won't be a downpour, just light, nuisance stuff.

This long-advertised warm week in Vermont will be a little wetter than I originally thought, especially in the northern half of the state.

A warm front moving throught Tuesday has northern areas under a chance of showers. A cold front coming down from the north Wednesday will bring a chance of more showers to the north.

Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week, with highs in the 50s to low 60s for the Green Mountain State.

The wet trend will continue. I said yesterday that the cold front slowly passing through Vermont Thursday won't be able to tap too greatly into a very wet storm down in the southern United States.

It's looking more and more like that front will grab some of that intense moisture and bring it into Verrmont. I still don't expect anything too extreme,  but I'd probably expect a good soaking rain Thursday.

Thursday will also probably be one of those days with an extreme temperature difference north to south in the state. I wouldn't be surprised if it's around 40 in the north and 60 down by Bennington.

We'll also have to watch out for maybe some ice or snow Thursday night, but it's too soon to say for sure if that will happen, and if so, how much we'd get.

It'll stay fairly mild heading into next weekend, but it's very hard to say whether it will be sunny or rainy. The forecasting computer models are all over the place and can't decide what will happen five, six or seven days from now.
